Aerobic bacteriological profile of urinary tract infections in a tertiary care hospital

چکیده
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most common bacterial infections and account for a significant part of the workload in clinical microbiology laboratories (Micheal et al., 2004). Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most important causes of morbidity in the general population, and is the second most common cause of hospital visits (Das et al., 2006). It has been estimated that globally symptomatic UTIs result in as many as 7 million visits to outpatient clinics, 1 million visits to emergency departments, and 100,000 hospitalizations annually (Razak et al., 2012). Enteric bacteria (in particular, Escherichia coli) remain the most frequent cause of UTIs, although the distribution of pathogens that cause UTIs is changing (Micheal et al., 2004). Prevalence and Microbiological Profile of Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections: A Case Study in Secondary Care Hospital
Background and Objectives: Healthcare-associated infections is a major health care concern posing potentially serious negative impact on patient safety and outcome. In this paper, we report this microbiological profile and the prevalence of Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTIs). Methods: This was a prospective observational study for...
متن کاملStreptococcus agalactiae-associated Urinary Tract Infections amongst Male Patients at a Tertiary Care Setting in Southwest India
Introduction: The occurrence of urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by the group B Streptococcus (GBS) in females is well documented. On the contrary, the prevalence amongst males is infrequent, and studies from the Indian subcontinent are limited. This study aimed to determine the occurrence of GBS bacteriuria and its antibiotic susceptibility profile amongst male patients. Methods: Clean-c...
متن کاملPhenotypic Identification and Antibiotic Susceptibility Pattern of AmpC beta-Lactamase Producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolated from Urinary Tract Infections from a Tertiary Care Hospital of Rawalpindi, Pakistan
Introduction: This study is aimed to compare phenotypic test methods and determine antibiotic susceptibility pattern of AmpC beta-lactamase producing uropathogenic Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae in clinical isolates. Method: E. coli and K. pneumoniae were identified by standard microbiological procedures. Screening of AmpC beta-lactamase production was done by using cefoxitin disc (...
متن کاملAn Overview of Candiduria
Candida microorganisms frequently exist as saprophytes on the external genitalia or urethra, however, yeast in measurable quantities are found in <1% of clean voided urine specimens. The overall frequency of Candida infections in hospitals has increased by 200% to 300% in the last decade, such that in a general hospital 5% of urine cultures may yield Candida species, and in tertiary-care center...
متن کاملClinico-epidemiological nature and antibiotic susceptibility profile of Acinetobacter species
OBJECTIVES Acinetobacter spp. has emerged as an important opportunistic pathogen responsible for nosocomial infections in many health-care settings worldwide. The study describes the clinico-epidemiology and antimicrobial susceptibility of Acinetobacter spp. in a tertiary health-care institution. Methodology : Acinetobacter spp. were isolated from 141 specimens of the patients who reported to U...
